Australian College Of Theology (ACT)

The Australian College of Theology is a national Higher Education Provider, established in 1891 by the General Synod of the Church of England in Australia “to foster and direct the systematic study of Divinity, especially among the clergy”. From humble beginnings it has grown significantly and now offers a wide range of awards catering not only for the specialised needs of ministerial and missionary candidates but also for the needs of lay people interested in an understanding of the Christian faith and its implications for contemporary life.

The ACT, as a college, is primarily an examining and not a teaching body. Most of its courses must be studied through one of it's approved institutes, accredited by various Government Education departments. The PTC, accredited by the Victorian Government Department of Education, Employment and Training (DEET) Higher Education Office, is offering ACT courses. The ACT is governed by a Board of Delegates which has a program of inspection and assessment of each approved institute to ensure that quality assurance criteria are met. The CEO of the Board of Delegates is the Dean, currently Dr Mark Harding.
